Evaluation Question 4
Who would be the audience for your media product?
The ideal target audience we previously decided on for our film opening was teenagers above the ages of 15. Above shown is the BBFC certificate that would be placed on a DVD/Blu Ray cover if were to distribute our product to a mass audience. We felt that 15 was the appropriate age rating for our film opening because it contains one scene of moderate violence when the protagonist attacks the antagonist from behind by choking him with his arm. The BBFC website states that no one younger than 15 can see or buy a 15 rated media product as it may contain discrimination, drugs, imitable behavior, inappropriate language, nudity, sex, threat or violence. Our product only contains moderate violence but it will be unsuitable for anyone under the age of 15 to view our film opening.
The type of person that would be enjoy our film would be probably be between the ages of 15-18 and probably male. They would be interested in action thriller movies such as Dark Knight and Inception and would therefore enjoy our film opening and would want to watch it with friends that are also interested in action thriller films. We think that they would be inspired by the protagonist (who also of a similar age) for performing a positive act against a negative stereotype of another teenager. This would probably cause discussion between friends about the content of our film opening.
We didn't conduct any questionnaires on what films our audience liked but we did show our film opening to our chosen target audience. Once the film opening finished, they gave us constructive feedback on our film opening and told us what we could improve while also talking about what they liked most about our film opening.
Based on these psychographic and demographic tables, our audience would be succeeders because our target audience are still in education doing A-Levels or College/Apprenticeship courses as they are still between the ages of 16 and 18. Our audience wouldn't fit under any of the demographic letters as they aren't in full time employment but some might fit under the letter E as some teenagers do part-time jobs or casual work. However, the majority of our audience will be prosumers because they also produce their own media content, therefore, they would have a more critical view of our film opening.

Evaluation Question 1
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
A convention is a reappearing way of presenting something and is usually represented through a media product which is typical to that type of product and its genre (for our product this is an action thriller film opening).
Our media product uses some forms and conventions of our chosen genre, action-thriller, such as fast-paced tension created through a dramatic soundtrack during the rendezvous of the two cars at the multi-storey car park building.
During our research, we looked at film openings that involved a rendezvous between cars at a shady setting mainly at car parks in built up areas. They all involved the hijacking from a protagonist to prevent a shady deal from going down between two antagonists. All of them were under the action thriller genre and that ended up being the genre we settled on for our film opening. However, we didn't have the time or resources to film our film opening in a built-up area in Central London. Instead, we decided to film our opening in Banbury Castle Quay car park because it was fairly local to all of us as we all live near Banbury.
For our titles and actor/director/producer etc credits, we decided to use white text and overlay the credits over the start of our film opening. The simplicity of our titles conveys that our film has a linear and simple narrative storyline that will be easy for our audience to understand and consume our film opening. Furthermore, it also conform to the conventions of our chosen genre action thriller as it is more plain and dark. This is similar to Heat because they are the same genre as our main film opening.

Post Production: Sound
In our film opening, there is no diegetic sound of dialogue as we felt that this was the best way to build up tension, which is effective as we need to grab the audience's attention during the start of the film opening. Throughout our film opening we used non-diegetic music that climaxed towards the conclusion and build-up of the final moment of the film opening.
We searched the internet for royalty-free music to use within our narrative and make it combine as best as possible with our opening film narrative. A lot of tracks suited our genre but they didn't really suit our narrative and the speed of our film opening. We wanted a music piece that picked up speed and started quite slowly in order to build up tension within our film narrative. We chose 'Electro Zombies' as we felt that this was the best possible track to suit these specifications. Furthermore, we also wanted a track that to end the tension and fade out at the end of the film opening. The track we chose for this purpose was 'Lusus Naturae'

Post Production: Effects
In order to edit our film opening, we used the program Abode Premiere Pro. However, we didn't add many effects to our film because we thought it would take away from the atmosphere of our film opening. At the post production stage, the colour of our footage was quite vibrant and therefore wouldn't have suited the conventions of our genre, which is action thriller. As a result, we changed the saturation of our footage from 100 to around 70 to make the clips darker and match up together to suit the mood.
In addition, at the end of the film opening we fade out the final shot, this makes it slower and slightly more effective instead of a very sudden cut off that would kill the atmosphere of our film opening. We also felt that having no transitions would be most effective because it would allow our footage to flow together very well and not take away from our film opening.

Post Production: Titles
For the titles of our film opening we considered the font type and size to best suit the conventions of our film opening. Many of our titles were created through the use of 3D Camera Tracker when panning shots were being done. This was completed and amended further in Adobe After Effects and then converted over to Adobe Premiere Pro in order to use on our film opening. Here is an example of titles used within our film opening:
We considered many different options for our titles for our film opening, experimenting with different fonts before deciding which one best suited our film opening. Our main film cuts sharply into a climax of the music at the end of the opening to end the tension that was created during it and then title fades into the next scene for effect.

Our main film cuts sharply into a climax of the music at the end of the opening to end the tension that was created during it and then title fades into the next scene for effect.
We decided on a simple font for our film opening because we felt this best represented the genre and tension in the film opening well. Therefore, with it being sharp text, it represents how the tension has a sharp climax. Furthermore, the text is very plain which correlates with the mood of our film, being dark and not very vibrant. As shown below, the title credit is slanted to represent the character walking across the path and the mood that is created as he walks across the symbol for effect.
The titles and credits in our opening appear alongside our footage and in white text so that they stand out, however, the final title is shown by itself, as this is the most important title and will have the biggest effect to reinforce the tension created within our film opening as it appears on the climax of our sound track.

Post Production: Ident
This is the ident for our group that we created which appears at the start of our film opening. Before settling on this ident, we experimented with different types of idents that could best fit our film opening. We feel that this was the best title to use as our ident because each part of the title is the first 2 letters of each of our first names of the people in our group. In addition to that, we thought that it also looked the most professional out of the idents we looked at. In order to produce our ident we used Adobe Indesign and then imported the ident into Premiere Pro, which we used to edit our film opening. Finally, we felt it suited the genre and conventions of our film opening, which is action thriller.

Target Audience
The target audience for our film opening will be teenagers aged 15 and over. This is because there is moderate violence in our film opening and two of the characters that are in our film are played by teenagers, therefore, it would allow our intended target audience to relate to them. In addition, our genre, which is action thriller, will appeal to our primary target audience because stereotypically teenagers over the age of 15 would be interested in the chosen genre of our film opening. Furthermore, the protagonist in our film opening is male, therefore, it is more likely that it will appeal to males.
Due to the linear narrative in our film opening, it allows the audience to feel the suspense and tension through the conventions of the action thriller genre that are represented within our film opening. In order for our primary target audience to enjoy our film opening, we have to keep them engaged through the use of tension created in our two minute film opening and ensure that the film opening sticks to the conventions of our chosen genre.

Costume, Props and Make up
In our film opening, the costume, props and make-up within it will have to link to the stereotypes we wish to conform to or subvert. In addition to that, we will also have to conform or subvert the conventions of our chosen genre, Action-Thriller.
Costume
The main antagonist in our film opening will wear a black suit and tie because in the action thriller film Heat, the main antagonist in that film, Neil McCauley (Robert De Niro), also wears the aforementioned costume. This is because we want to conform to what a villain would like with a film that has a closely linked narrative to our film opening. Furthermore, in most action thriller films the antagonists tend to wear black clothing as it connotes that the characters are powerful and have a mysterious personality that stemmed from a vendetta for someone that has wronged them in the past.
The protagonist in our film opening will wear a hoodie, jeans and trainers because we want him to represent what the average male teenager would like. In addition, to that we feel that this would empower our target audience as they are aged 15 and over and may feel inspired. We also wanted to loosely conform to what a main protagonist would look like in an action thriller film, specifically, Lieutenant Vincent Hanna (Al Pacino) in Heat (1995), as he wears more casual clothing than the main antagonist, Neil McCauley (Robert De Niro).
Props
One of the props that will be used in our film opening is a metal briefcase. This is an essential part of our narrative as this is the prop that the antagonists will be exchanging and it is also what the protagonist will be after when chasing the main antagonist.
Make up
In our film opening, it won't be necessary for our characters to wear make up because in action-thriller films the main characters need to look as realistic as possible and it is possible for them to get injuries and scars over the course of an action-thriller narrative due to characters being involved in altercations and fights for the purpose of the narrative.
