Evaluation Question 4
Who would be the audience for your media product?
The ideal target audience we previously decided on for our film opening was teenagers above the ages of 15. Above shown is the BBFC certificate that would be placed on a DVD/Blu Ray cover if were to distribute our product to a mass audience. We felt that 15 was the appropriate age rating for our film opening because it contains one scene of moderate violence when the protagonist attacks the antagonist from behind by choking him with his arm. The BBFC website states that no one younger than 15 can see or buy a 15 rated media product as it may contain discrimination, drugs, imitable behavior, inappropriate language, nudity, sex, threat or violence. Our product only contains moderate violence but it will be unsuitable for anyone under the age of 15 to view our film opening.
The type of person that would be enjoy our film would be probably be between the ages of 15-18 and probably male. They would be interested in action thriller movies such as Dark Knight and Inception and would therefore enjoy our film opening and would want to watch it with friends that are also interested in action thriller films. We think that they would be inspired by the protagonist (who also of a similar age) for performing a positive act against a negative stereotype of another teenager. This would probably cause discussion between friends about the content of our film opening.
We didn't conduct any questionnaires on what films our audience liked but we did show our film opening to our chosen target audience. Once the film opening finished, they gave us constructive feedback on our film opening and told us what we could improve while also talking about what they liked most about our film opening.
Based on these psychographic and demographic tables, our audience would be succeeders because our target audience are still in education doing A-Levels or College/Apprenticeship courses as they are still between the ages of 16 and 18. Our audience wouldn't fit under any of the demographic letters as they aren't in full time employment but some might fit under the letter E as some teenagers do part-time jobs or casual work. However, the majority of our audience will be prosumers because they also produce their own media content, therefore, they would have a more critical view of our film opening.
